Two nights before the biggest race of his life, I’ll Have Another slept in the pokey.
The 3-year-old colt, who will try to make history by becoming the first Triple Crown winner since 1978 in Saturday’s Belmont Stakes, stayed in the new state-mandated detention barn Wednesday night and appeared no worse for wear Thursday morning.
“He’s settled right in, like we thought he would,” trainer Doug O’Neill said. “We had a really good day of training today. I thought he showed good energy and he cooled out really well. So we are very happy with where we are here two days out.”
